Our History

The family history behind the business

The origins of our trusted family business go back as far as 1945. Having returned injured from the battle of Anzio, 20-year-old Tom Brennand signed up as an apprentice butcher at R Lomas in Blackpool.

He spent several years learning the butcher’s trade before becoming the area sales representative for T Lucas & Co. Looking after customers in Blackpool and throughout the North West inspired Tom to establish Fylde Butchers Supplies, a company that initially focused on ingredients.

The business flourished and Tom’s sons David and Mike were both heavily influenced by their father’s passion for business, hard work and dedication to his trade. Those values are the cornerstone of our family business to this day.

When David joined the family business, he saw the opportunity to expand and diversify its offer. And so Innovative Food Ingredients was born.

If we are looking to refresh our display, IFI are our first 'go to' ingredients supplier. Michael is always proactive, goes the extra mile and is eager to ensure that we have what we need, when we need it. He also understands our business and offers product solutions that fit perfectly with our discerning customer base.

Having the product demo was a real bonus to the visit to the Northeast! Peter showed us a range of easy to make top quality value added products, and also explained some quick win ways of increasing the margins on some products. Nicholsons kindly cooked off the samples, and we all had a chance to ask questions, and share comments while “chewing the cud”. Carley was on hand to discuss any enquiries regarding samples of ingredients, product specs. etc. We have a list of products which we will be looking to develop into our value added range in the New Year.

Overall, I was very impressed with the value-added product demonstration that I attended at Nicholsons Butchers in Whitley Bay. Following the IFI demonstration for the Q Guild at Nicholsons Butchers in Whitley Bay, we decided to try the Beef Stroganoff recipe with the fresh additions. This has proved a hit with our customers and secured a regular place in our counter along with other convenient and quick cooking lines. We are gradually increasing the number of kitchen ready quick cooking products we offer and early indications are that the Rogan Josh will be following the Stroganoff as a regular line.
